MOPAR/SWAMP RAT

Not long ago I had the opportunity to meet the all time top fuel drag racing legend Big Daddy Don Garlits.

My grandson and I went to a car show in Ky where Big Daddy was the feature attraction of the day. We looked around a while at some nice hot rods, bought a few small items and got Big Daddy to autograph them.

I tried to explain to my grandson (on the right in picture with Big Daddy) who he was, but don't think he really grasp the moment. Truth is I was more excited for him to meet the legend than he was. Never the less he took my word for who he was and bought a nice cap with the swamp rat on it, got it autographed along with the t-shirt he was wearing. However the biggest thrill of the day was when Big Daddy started this car and we got to hear it run, this thing was loud and tearing the up the ground. Later I am going to post a video of this car running so!!!!!!! This thing is awesome.

Yellow Fever

Wife and I went for a ride Saturday morning when I noticed all alone in Wal Mart Parking area this 1936 five window Ford Coupe. You kidding, I had to go check it out. Car turned out to be powered by a 327 Chevy, it was chopped, channeled, sectioned and Zeed.

This Car belongs to Donald Vienneau ( in picture), who by the way is 71 years old. Donald told me he had his picture made with this car when he was 17 year old, though he has owned the car for only three years. The guy definitely has some history with this one.

Car has also been in Custom Car Magazine for three years in a row 1957- 58- 59, and talk about a mixed bag of goods, car has 1940 Chevy headlights, 1947 Ford park lights, 1949 Plymouth bumpers front and back. It has a Studebaker tail lights, 1956 Olds Fiesta hubcaps, 1940 Lincoln armrests. Written on the side of the car in white lettering was the words "The Fallen Star", guess that must be the name that Donald or someone gave this car.

I was glad for the morning drive and the brief encounter with Donald and the Fallen Star. Well he was off to the car show and I drove back to the house, but I think that maybe I came down with a little touch of yellow fever as the day wore on and I thought about this beautiful car. Oh well, nice car, glad I got to see it.

Bicycle Junkie

A little pricey, but so help me I had to tear myself away from this one. Since bicycles are easier and cheaper to work on than hot rods, a couple of years ago I started gathering old bikes for the purpose of restoration. Currently I have about 15 bicycles, there all over the place. I have the old Schwinn's with the banana seat, one bike that was made in Germany with the original white wall tires, and yet I happen to see this one at a yard sale beckoning to me to buy it. Are you kidding me, my wife would kill me if I brought home another bike, but it was tempting. Anyway got a picture and this thing is sweet. Oh well!

Flaming Beauty

This 41 Willy's is as nice as they come. I particular like the color and the flame job they did on this one. The front yellow fenders flowing into the black body highlighted by those orange and yellowish red flames made this little beauty easy on the eye.
The chrome exhaust coming out from the side in front of those massive rear tires is a nice little touch also. The red interior is as good as it gets, quality all the way. Sorry I got so taken by the body and paint on this one I forget to look under the hood, ( Hurrying off to see the seventeen time world champion legend in top fuel drag racing left me a little short on time). However I am glad that I slowed down enough to catch a glimpse of this one, if I see it again I will definitely look under the hood to see what powers this flaming beauty.
